2. Overview

This website provides information about doomscrolling and digital wellbeing. It is intentionally data-minimal: there is no user account, no comment or contact forms, no newsletter, and no advertising or tracking services. Below we explain which data is nevertheless processed for technical reasons when you visit.

3. Hosting & server logs

The website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA. Vercel processes the data on our behalf (data processing under Art. 28 GDPR). As data may be transferred to the USA, this transfer is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

When the site is accessed, the servers automatically record access data in log files: IP address, date and time of access, the resource requested, the amount of data transferred, the referrer, and browser and operating-system identifiers. This processing is necessary for the secure and stable operation of the website; the legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR.

4. Location-based language selection

So that visitors see the site in a suitable language, only the country of origin is derived from the IP address on page load (provided by Vercel's content-delivery network). Based on the country, you are routed to the German (DE, AT, CH) or English version. We do not store the IP address for this purpose; only the country code is processed. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (user-friendly language display).

5. Cookies

This website sets a single, strictly necessary cookie: “NEXT_LOCALE”. It stores only your chosen language so your selection persists on a return visit. No tracking takes place. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent (§ 25 (2) TDDDG); the legal basis for the processing is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR. You can delete or block cookies in your browser at any time.

6. Fonts

The fonts used are served locally from our server (self-hosted). No connection is made to third-party servers — in particular not to Google Fonts — and no data is transmitted to third parties.

7. Your rights

In relation to your personal data you have the following rights: access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection to processing (Art. 21 GDPR).

To exercise them, an informal message to the contact address in the Legal Notice is sufficient.

8. Right to lodge a complaint

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

9. Changes

We will update this privacy policy whenever the underlying data processing changes — for example, if a forum or other interactive features are added in the future. The version published on this page applies at any given time.
